As preliminary research for this project, I read Goethe's 'Italian Journey', in which he describes both his journey and method of analysing the world. He uses a deep understanding of geology and other natural sciences. Venice is described in terms of the categories of flora, fauna, mud and stone found on the lido.
Thinking about how I could describe Venice, what method and language to use, I imagined taking the dominant UK language of business and management on my travels - seeing the world through organizational charts, spreadsheets, critical-paths. Framing the world with these devices would determine what was found and what was worth of looking for.
Amora a Venezia is an attempt to look at the world through another device - something that allows for a richer and broader understanding. To travel to and to be in love with Venice would be the best outcome that I could hope for. Having heard a old jazz lyric, (a Duke Ellington song?) along the lines of 'when you're in love, you see rainbows everywhere', I went looking for evidence. Inkjet prints are positioned on the wall according to the relationship of the object to the horizon, and through time.
