The human voice is used to great effect in Venice. The relatively calm waters carrying sound over great distances. There are stories of wives singing from the shores, anticipating a reply from their husbands fishing in the Lagoon.
You may also hear taxi drivers and deliverymen let out a piercing whistle, aimed with great accuracy at passing friends or colleagues, either on boat or shore.
